Mitchell Cotts Kenya Limited is one of the most recognized and respected names in the shipping, freight forwarding, warehousing and transport business. Mitchell Cotts Kenya Limited came to Kenya in 1926 when the company was set up to undertake supply of coalbunkers to ships.

At the time steamships used coal as fuel. The operations of the company were later expanded to include ships agency, freight forwarding, trading activities and the corporate headquarters of the company. Mitchell Cotts in East Africa has a heritage spanning more than 90 years.

For a long time Mitchell Cotts Kenya was a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitchell Cotts PLC UK comprising of a group of companies operating in countries all over the world such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Hong Kong amongst others.

Recent changes have been seen in the UK parent company being bought out by other companies and some parts of the group becoming localised.

Mitchell Cotts Group is 100% owned by First Chartered Securities Limited. The company is registered and organized in accordance to the corporate laws of the Republic of Kenya. The group has four major subsidiaires. These are:

Manages all properties of the group including all leases and rentals. It is the group's holding company and corporate head office

Mitchell Cotts Freight Limited
The logistics services division of the group dealing in freight forwarding, warehousing, collateral management, airfreight, shipping, Container Freight Station (CFS) and multi-modal transport.

G. North and Sons Limited
A commodity trading company dealing in engineering, sales and maintanence of industrial agriculture, catering, laundry equipment and irrigation systems.

Manson Hart Limited
Dealing in production and sale of building and construction material, including roofing and floor tiles.

The group's ship agency division under Mitchell Cotts Freight offers ship's husbanding and protective ship agency services to chartered vessels.

Daniel Tanui, Managing Director
He has previously worked with Signon Freight Limited as Divisional Manager before joining Mitchell Cotts Freight Limited in 1995.

Daniel Tanui has over sixteen years practical experience in regional logistics and dynamics within the freight forwarding, consolidation, Transport and warehousing industry.

He has thorough knowledge of the East African trading, transport and storage patterns with vast business contacts within the region.
Daniel has previously worked with Siginon Freight Limited as Divisional Manager before joining Mitchell Cotts Freight Limited in 1995.

Daniel Tanui has over sixteen years practical experience in regional logistics and dynamics within the freight forwarding, consolidation, Transport and warehousing industry.

He has thorough knowledge of the East African trading, transport and storage patterns with vast business contacts within the region.

A fully-qualified Certified Public Accountant, Daniel Tanui is based at the head office in Mombasa and overseas all the operations and business growth of Mitchell Cotts Limited within the region.

Clement Mwabingu, Clearing & Forwarding, Shipping Manager
Previously worked with Leslie & Anderson East Africa Limited in the Shipping department from 1978 to 1983, Kenya Vanlines Limited as Branch Manager, Mombasa, in charge of freight and transport.

He joined Siginon Freight Limited as Shipping Manager in 1988 and thereafter as Divisional Manager, clearing and Forwarding. Clement left Siginon Freight Limited and joined Mitchell Cotts in 2005.

He has 25 years of practical knowledge and experience in Warehousing business, customs and port operations.
Clement previously worked with Leslie & Anderson East Africa Limited in the Shipping department from 1978 to 1983. He later moved to Kenya Vanlines Limited as branch Manager Mombasa in charge of freight and Transport.

He joined Siginon Freight Limited as Shipping Manager in 1988 and thereafter as Divisional Manager, clearing and Forwarding. Clement left Siginon Freight Limited and joined Mitchell Cotts in 2005.

He has 25 years of practical knowledge and experience in Warehousing business, customs and port operations.

Mark Mbua, Finance Manager
He has previously worked in the agricultural and manufacturing sector with Kakuzi Limited and Hoechst East Africa Limited before joining Mitchell Cotts Freight in 1995.

A fully qualified Certified Public Accountant Mark Mbua has vast experience in Freight Industry and has been instrumental in the implementation of the company’s expansion programmes.

Jeremiah Kiilu, Warehouse Manager
Jeremiah joined the warehouse department of Mitchell Cotts Freights in 1997. He has vast experience in warehousing procedures and systems gained from practical documentation, and handling of various commodities, vehicles and project cargo.

Kiilu has over ten years practical experience I freight forwarding industry and holds a diploma in Clearing, warehousing and practical freight forwarding from Bandari College.

Edwin Gitonga, Business Development Manager
He has previously worked at Inchcape Shipping Services as Ship Services Manager before joining Mitchell Cotts Shipping in December 1999.
Previously the Ship Services Manager at Inchcape Shipping Services before joining Mitchell Cotts Shipping in December 1999, Edwin Gitonga has over fourteen years practical shipping operations experience and commercial management in the logistics industry.

Edwin has substantial experience in commercial activities of a shipping agent that includes, marketing of container lines services and breakbulk tonnage.

Edwin holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Ship broking from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers U.K.


Muthamia Mugambi, Airfreight Manager
Muthamia joined Mitchell Cotts Freight in 1992 and is based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Freight terminal in charge of the airfreight department.

Mr. Muthamia is a specialist in airfreight cargo and has attended various operations courses in the airline industry. He has been involved in the set up of the company’s commercial base for over fifteen years.

Angela Kuria, Sales & Marketing Manager
Angela joined Mitchell Freight Kenya in November 2006. She has over eight years, sales and marketing experience, six of which have been in the freight industry. She previously worked at Express Kenya Limited and Siginon Freight.
Angela joined Mitchell Cotts Freight Kenya Limited in November 2006. She has over eight years, sales and marketing experience, six of which have been in the freight industry.

She previously worked at Express Kenya Limited and Siginon Freight Limited.

Angela holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) degree from Kenyatta University and an MBA specializing in Marketing from the University of Nairobi.


Wilfred Oluga, Marketing & Quality Control Manager
Wilfred joined Mitchell Cotts in 2004 and has over 10 years experience in clearing and forwarding, and has worked in various capacities in different organisations within the industry.
Mr. Oluga joined Mitchell Cotts in 2004 and has over 10 years experience in clearing and forwarding and has worked in various capacities in different organizations within the industry.

He is currently based at Mitchell Cotts head office in Mombasa where he serves a dual function as the Quality Control Manager in charge of the ISO 9001: 2000 System and Marketing Manager.
