History

Mitchell Cotts is one of the most recognized and respected names in the shipping, freight forwarding, warehousing and transport business in East Africa. Mitchell Cotts came to East Africa in 1926 when the company was set up to undertake supply of coalbunkers to ships calling the port of Mombasa.

The operations of the company were later expanded to include ships agency, freight forwarding, warehousing, trading activities and the regional corporate headquarters of the company. Mitchell Cotts in East Africa has a heritage spanning more than 90 years.

For a long time Mitchell Cotts East Africa was a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitchell Cotts PLC UK comprising of a group of companies operating in countries all over the world such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Hong Kong amongst others.

Recent changes have been seen in the UK parent company being bought out by other companies and some parts of the group becoming localised.

Mitchell Cotts Group in Kenya is 100% owned by First Chartered Securities Limited.
